The postal administration of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia issued its own official stamps in twelve denominations on 1 January 1941 ("1st issue"); they were valid until 31 March 1943. On 15 February 1943, a second series with a modified design ("2nd issue") was issued in the same twelve denominations; this was valid until 31 December 1944. There was therefore a short period of six weeks during which both issues could be used in parallel, resulting in rare mixed frankings of both issues.
Official stamps were only sold and supplied to the authorities etc. in sheets of 100. As a result, it sometimes happened that not all the required denominations were always in stock. In this case, normal definitive and commemorative stamps of the Protectorate were used and tolerated as a supplement for the required postage (so-called " provisionals").
While mixed frankings of the 1st or 2nd issue with definitive or commemorative stamps are more common, mixed frankings of both issues with a provisional are among the rarities of this area.
The R letter of the General Commander of the uniformed Protectorate Police from Prague, 31.III.43, (cover 2,40K, Reco 3K) from the last day of validity of the 1st issue to Eibenschütz (Ivančice) shows such a very rare mixed franking with a definitive stamp as a provisional.
